Biography

Spanish tenor Jesús Álvarez has studied voice with Ana Luisa Chova in Spain and with Patricia McCaffrey in New York. He has also attended Master class with: Darrell Babidge, Francisco Araiza, Tobias Truniger, Laurent Pillot, Kevin Murphy, Pierre Vallet, W. Rieger, Rubén Fdez. Aguirre, Husan Park and John Lidal.

He joined “Placido Domingo’s Advanced Centre” during the season 2011-2012 at the Valencia’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, where he has participated in the productions of Amelia al ballo, Le nozze di Figaro, Boris Godunov, Dido & Aeneas, Il trovatore and Tristan und Isolde, working with Plácido Domingo, Ruggero Raimondi, Jean-Luois Grinda, Philipp Himmelmann, Omer Meir Wellber and Zubin Metha. 

Among his roles in opera are: Paolino in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto at Innsbruck Festival of Ancient Music with Alessandro de Marchi as conductor and Renaud Doucet as stage director; Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale at the Florida Grand Opera in Miami (Ramón Tebar as conductor and Renaud Doucet as stage director), at Longborough Opera Festival in United Kingdom, at the Gärtnerplatztheater Münich (Michael Brandstätter as conductor and Brigitte Fassbaender as stage director), at Oviedo’s Teatro Campoamor and Teatro Jovellanos of Gijón (Marzio Conti as conductor and Curro Carreres as stage directo), Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at Opera North in Leeds (Jac van Steen as conductor and Christopher Alden as stage director); Tonio in G. Donizetti’s La fille du regiment at the Iford Festival in United Kingdom; Ruiz and messo in Verdi’s Il Trovatore at Semperoper Dresden (Daniel Oren as conductor); The lover in Menotti’s Amelia al ballo (Placido Domingo as conductor and Jean Louis Grinda as stage director) at Valencia’s Palau de les Arts; Pedrillo in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem serail in Barcelona's Auditorium with Christian Zacharias; Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Castellon Theatre with Klaus Sallman; Gernando in Garcia's L'isola disabitata at both Bilbao's Arriaga Theatre and Sevilla's Maestranza Theatre with Emilio Sagi as stage director.

In concert he has sung a French Opera Gala at the Oslo’s Opera House, and in the “Kammeroper Schloss Festival 2010” at Rheinsberg (Berlin), singing “Operngala” and Pylades in Gluck's “Iphigenie en Tauride”.

He has also participated in the “Comic Opera” production in Müller's Studio Zürich and Basel Auditorium (Swiss).

In zarzuela (spanish opereta): he has played the roles of Cardona in Vives Doña Francisquita at the Theâtre du Capitole of Toulouse with Josep Caballe as conductor and Emilio Sagi as stage director; Principe Sergio in Sorozábal’s Katiuska at the Teatro Principal of Castellón; Casto José in Lleo’s La corte del faraón, Jeremías in Chapí’s El rey que rabió, Capó in Sorozabal’s La del manojo de rosas; Vendedor and Saboyano in Torroba’s Luisa Fernanda; Perico in Serrano’s La Dolorosa, Lombardi  in Serrano’s La canción del olvido.

Recently, he has taken part in the movie MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 of Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie as Calaf in Turandot.

He has recorded La nit del mort of Granados at the Barcelona’s Auditorium with the Orchestra of Barcelona (OBC), conducted by Pablo González for the record label NAXOS.
